Four steps. You only do one of them. The other three are why the vault exists.
Step one
Granite accepts whatever form the document already exists in. PDF and Word for the obvious cases. JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, and HEIF for phone photos — including the Apple-only HEIC that most apps choke on. Drag a whole folder in if that’s how you have things organized.
Re-dropping the same file never produces a duplicate — Granite recognizes it byte-for-byte at the upload edge.

Step two
Granite classifies each document against a library of more than sixty document types we already know how to read. Then it pulls out the fields that matter — wages, dates, amounts, account numbers, expiration dates — and links each document to the people, vendors, vehicles, and tax years it concerns.
A one-paragraph summary in plain English sits on top of every document — so when you come back later, you remember without having to re-read the whole page.

Wage and Tax Statement
What this is
autoWages of $148,500 with $28,432 withheld. Filed under Tax 2024 alongside your 1099-NEC from Stripe.
Every correction makes Granite better for you specifically — not everyone, just your archive.
What we already know how to read
Each document type teaches Granite which fields matter, which entities to link, and how to title it. Don’t see yours? We add a new type roughly once a week — write us at hello@granite.co and we’ll prioritize it.
W-2, 1099-NEC, 1099-INT, 1040, K-1, property tax bill, mortgage interest.
Passport, driver’s license, Social Security card, birth certificate, visa.
Lease, mortgage statement, home insurance, utility bills, HOA statement.
Title, registration, auto insurance, service records, loan payoff.
EOB, immunization record, prescription, lab result, insurance card.
LLC formation, operating agreement, EIN letter, invoices, vendor W-9.
Marriage certificate, divorce decree, power of attorney, will.
Transcripts, diplomas, enrollment records, financial aid letters.
Step three
In plain English. Granite runs hybrid search across keywords, semantic meaning, and the entities each document concerns — then reranks the top results so the right thing surfaces first. You don’t need to remember what you titled the file. You don’t need to remember if you titled it.
Ask a question and you get an answer pulled from the document, with a citation back to the page so you can verify it yourself.

Step four
Every document gets a permanent home — alongside the people, vendors, vehicles, and tax years it concerns. The library reads like a quiet bookshelf. Auto-collections form themselves around the natural groupings — a 2024 tax collection forms the moment you drop your W-2; a vehicle collection forms the moment you drop a title.
Manual collections are there too — group anything you want, however you want.
